Product Information

This article applies to McAfee Internet Security Suite 2007 and 2008 (v7 and v8). There may be some slight differences between the versions, however the basic configuration is applicable to both versions. This article was originally written for version 2007 / v7.

McAfee Internet Security Suite includes a firewall and antivirus application, as well as other security applications. It is accessed via the McAfee Security Center application, which is typically running in the Windows system tray.

McAfee has recently changed the way it handles its firewall. Before you simply had to add the program to the allow list in order to configure the firewall. Now the firewall will also need to include the site you are connecting too. The software will need a physical IP as it will not resolve host names. This is particularly a larger issues for those companies connecting to sites with dynamic IPs. If the IP address changes for a particular site, you will need to update that change in the firewall.

Configuring firewall for automatic access

If RezOvation is installed after a firewall is installed, if the application is not configured in the firewall, McAfee will prompt the user with an alert stating that a program is trying to connect to the network/ Internet. When this happens, set the firewall to allow the RezOvation application access to the resource.

  1. When the alert appears, select Grant Access

  2. The application will then be allowed to perform that task stated in the alert

Configuring the firewall for use with a network

This FAQ did not cover LAN connections. Be sure that all PC(s) on the network are able to connect to the PC with the firewall configured to allow this if RezOvation is running on a network. Also note that for RezOvation Desktop users, full access is required in both the installation directory as well as the directory where the database is stored.

By default, McAfee Internet Security should be configured to enable network access, but in some cases, this function may not work. While RezOvation support cannot assist with this configuration, there are other resources available to you:
