- Server refers to the computer that hosts the RezOvation Desktop database. Only one computer can host the database. It is not required to install RezOvation Desktop on the Server computer unless that computer will be used to access the database.
- Client refers to the computer(s) that access the database over the network. Each Client computer must have the same version of RezOvation Desktop installed.
Configuring a network installation
Windows XP
Server installation
- Install the RezOvation database on the Server.
- Share the folder on the network so that it can be accessed by each Client computer. Each user on the client computer(s) will need read / modify permissions. For simplicity it is recommended that you give each user full access permissions.
- Find the server name, which will be needed for the Client installation. To find the Server name:
- Click the Start button, right-click the My Computer icon, and select Properties.
Note: if you do not have a My Computer icon in your Start menu, look for the icon on your Desktop.
- The System Properties window will appear. Select the Computer Name tab, and make a note of the Full Computer Name. This is the name of the server.
- Click the Start button, right-click the My Computer icon, and select Properties.
Client installation
- Install RezOvation Desktop on each client computer. Make sure to install the same version.
- Confirm that you can access the shared folder on the server, by doing the following:
Windows Vista
Vista specific notes
Microsoft hotfix for networking two Vista machines
If you are unable to connect two Vista machines to the RezOvation Desktop database at the same time over a network, you should install the below Hotfix:
Once the hotfix has been installed, reboot both computers.
XP Server with Vista Client
If you have your server PC running XP and your client PC running Vista, you can’t have the database directory in a folder directly off the C:\ drive. It has to be in the regular \program files\rezovation directory.
