General notes

On the LAN (internal), clients talk to the RezOvation database via Windows file sharing. As such, all computers on the network need to be able to access the server and the RezOvation database file share via normal file sharing.

On the WAN (external / Internet), RezOvation Desktop talks to the RezOvation Booking Engine server portal via port 443 (HTTPS). This is usually allowed by default for most hardware firewalls, although a software firewall like Norton Internet Security may block traffic from Rezovation GT service or application until you allow it.

Internal Ports

No ports are used for internal communication. Instead, RezOvation Desktop attaches to the database via a file share on the server.

The easiest way to confirm that this is working is to try to connect to the server and to the file share by selecting Start > Run and typing the server name and share name, which usually looks like this: \\SERVERNAME\Rezovation\. (In Vista, there is no "run" command, so you can just type the server name in the Start menu Search box.)

Each client should have read / write privileges to the RezOvation file share. It is recommended that each client be given full access permissions to alleviate any potential security problems.

External Ports - RezOvation Booking Engine

These ports are used for external (WAN) network requests, i.e. any requests from the Server to RezOvation Booking Engine.

  • 80
  • 443

External Ports - Email

These ports are used for SMTP email, i.e. any requests from the Client or Server to an email server. Note that email is sent through the user's email client, so if the email client can send email, then RezOvation should be able to send email as well.
