Can properties outside of the U.S. use RezOvation credit card processing?
No. Properties outside of the U.S. can only make use of the credit card guarantee (credit card hold). They will then have to manually process the payment at their inn.
How to get the best processing rates
- Swipe a card whenever possible.
- Use the pre-authorization feature when checking in a reservation. You can then "post" the transaction on checkout without needing to swipe the card again.
- Ensure that your processor has set up your merchant account with the correct coding. Typically this is hotel / lodging (SIC 7011).
- If a card swipe fails, check the box for "card present" to indicate to the processor that the card was in hand.
- If you process a decent volume of transactions that are not tied to a reservation (such as retail sales, spa sales, hourly reservations, or gift certificates), you should consider setting up a second retail merchant account in order to avoid downgrades. Transactions on non-reservation (retail or GC) invoices do not pass the required lodging data such as check in date, check out date, and hotel indicator, and many processors require this information in order to receive the best rates. In this case, setting up a retail account allows you to process non-reservation transactions without getting a downgrade. Please see the RezOvation Desktop 7 credit card processing user's guide for more information on configuring multiple accounts.
