With the introduction of Service Pack 2 in Windows XP, Microsoft changed the name for its firewall from Internet Connection Firewall to Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall provides a limited defense against unauthorized attempts to connect to you computer.
Configuring for automatic access
By default, the Windows XP firewall should be configured to allow automatic access, so no configuration should be required. If RezOvation software is not working, then you should confirm that the firewall is configured correctly to allow exceptions.
- Open The Control Panel from the Start Menu
- Click on the Windows Firewall Icon to open the Windows Firewall
- Check the On and un-check the Don't allow exceptions options to enable firewall protection with rules
Configuring for RezOvation Desktop
- Open The Control Panel from the Start Menu
- Click on the Windows Firewall Icon to open the Windows Firewall
- Check the On and un-check the Don't allow exceptions options to enable firewall protection with rules
- Select the Exceptions tab
- If RezOvation Desktop is not listed in the Programs and Services: section, click on Add Program button.
- Scroll through the list of applications and select "RezOvation.exe"
- RezOvation.exe should now be listed in the Programs and Services section.
- RezOvation Desktop should now be configured with the Windows Firewall
Configuring for RezOvation GT
- Open The Control Panel from the Start Menu
- Click on the Windows Firewall Icon to open the Windows Firewall
- Check the On and un-check the Don't allow exceptions options to enable firewall protection with rules
- Select the Exceptions tab
- If RezOvation GT is not listed in the Programs and Services: section, click on Add Program button.
- Scroll through the list of applications and select "RezOvationGT.exe"
- RezOvationGT.exe should now be listed in the Programs and Services section.
- Repeat steps above to add "RezOvationPropertyManager.exe to the application list"
- RezOvation GT should now be configured with the Windows Firewall
Disabling the Firewall
- Open The Control Panel from the Start Menu
- Click on the Windows Firewall Icon to open the Windows Firewall
- Check the Off option to disable firewall protection
Notes
This FAQ did not cover LAN connections. Be sure that all PC(s) on the network are able to connect to the PC with the firewall configured. This is important when RezOvation is running on a network. Also note that for RezOvation Desktop users, full access is required in both the installation directory as well as the directory where the database is stored.
